A MAN who intended to cause another to feel anxiety or distress by sending abusive and threatening voice messages has been sentenced.

Anthony McGuffie, 32, pleaded guilty at the first opportunity to sending a communication/article of an indecent/offensive nature on February 26 to another male in Kendal.

The defendant, of Highgate in Kendal, admitted the nature of the messages was of an indecent or grossly offensive nature for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety.

At South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on May 2, McGuffie received an eight-week community order as punishment.

Magistrates attached one requirement of him to complete eight weeks on an electronic monitoring curfew, preventing him from leaving his home between 21:00 and 06:00 am.

He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £114 surcharge.
