A Dalton road is set to be closed off for two days from today (Friday) as work is being carried out to fix a giant pothole.

Last month, Dalton Community Action Group reported that the crevice was 125mm deep and reported it to the council on March 28 and has allegedly been reported before.

A letter has now been sent out to residents to say that carriageway patching will take place from today (April 26) and is expected to be completed within two working days.

During this time, Westmorland and Furness Council advised that Cemetery Hill will be closed off but access will be maintained for residents and businesses.

As part of the letter, a council official said: "Please note that the carriageway programme is weather dependent, and the works may be delayed."

The council apologised in the letter for any disruption caused and said it would endeavor to keep delays to a minimum.
