A MAN has been banned from the road after being caught drug driving while 17 times over the limit.

Luke Jones, 34, was stopped by officers on Ulverston Road on the A590 near Swarthmoor on October 14 last year.

He was asked to conduct a roadside drugs wipe for analysis which came back positive for both Cocaine and Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, a court heard.

The defendant gave a lowest reading of 170 Ug/L of cocaine at the police station. The legal limit to drive is 10 Ug/L.

Jones, of School Street, Newton-le-Willows, St Helens also provided a lowest reading of 3.5 micrograms of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol. The legal limit for this controlled drug is 2.0 ug/L.

He pleaded guilty at the first opportunity to the two offences when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on April 19.

Magistrates imposed a two-year community order with a requirement to complete six months of drug rehabilitation under the direction of Change Grow Live.

Jones was also disqualified from driving for a period of 52 months.
