A SOUTH Cumbrian search and rescue team were called to help find a missing person in the water at the weekend.

Flookburgh-based Bay Search and Rescue (BSAR) were paged to Morecambe at around midday on Saturday (April 13) as part of a multi agency search with other HM Coastguard teams and Lancashire Police.

Volunteers returned back to station at 11pm and were called again the following morning at 7:30 am to search areas not yet covered.

Despite the efforts of all agencies, no sightings were made.

BSAR said a 'little knowledge and tidal advice' was bestowed on the visitors who were 'very grateful for the help'.

They also said the woman managed to get out of the gully, as the team arrived on scene, assisted by her husband.

A representative from BSAR said: “The team have done a truly awesome job this weekend, walking countless miles over some very challenging coastal terrain searching all inlets and coves.

“The BSAR amphibious Sherp has covered over 25 miles around the coast, swam some very fast moving channels and covered some areas that couldn’t be accessed by anything else.”
