Two local benefactors have teamed up to support the ongoing work of Furness Hedgehog Rescue.

Jeff Atkinson managed to raise £250 through a recent quiz night, with his friend Andy Murphy, the director of Leck Construction, committing to match the donation.

The charity, which is based in Dalton, is run by Irene Cannon, who shared her gratitude to the pair following an 'amazing day'.

She said on the Furness Hedgehog Rescue Facebook page: "For once I am lost for words other than thank you.

"That is not all though because Mr Murphy is going to make me some new hutches to replace the ones that are now past their best.

"There are some amazing people in this world and the Lord seems to be sending them all to me."

Leck Construction, based in Barrow, has been operating in the region since 1946 and will now be using its expertise in a different way to usual, when the team help build much-needed homes for the four-legged animals.
