The fire crew in Milnthorpe faced a busy end to last week as they responded to three separate vehicle incidents.

Between Thursday and Saturday, three vehicles caught fire, forcing the first responders into action.

On April 11, crews were called out at around 7:50pm following reports of an incident on the M6 between junctions 36 and 37 northbound.

Working with crews from Kendal and Sedbergh, firefighters 'found a car well alight on the hard shoulder'.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using one hose reel jet applied around 3400 litres of water to extinguish the fire.

A spokesperson from Milnthorpe Fire Station commented: "The motorway was closed for around 30 minutes for crew safety as the weather conditions were not great.

"Fire crews were on scene for about 60 minutes before handing over to highways."

Less than 24 hours later, the crew from Milnthorpe were once again called out to a second vehicle fire at around 6:05pm.

The incident took place on the A590 near Gilpin Bridge, with firefighters coming across a van that was ablaze.

The fire was extinguished by a pair of firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using a hose reel jet.

The crew attended the scene for around 50 minutes before being able to return to their station.

The work, however, was not done there, due to a third incident taking place on April 13.

Reports of a coach on fire at 12:33 in the afternoon brought the crew to the scene on the M6 between junctions 36 and 35.

The spokesperson explained: "On arrival we found a coach on the hard shoulder with an overheated engine.

"The fire crew was on scene for around 10 minutes before returning to home station."
