A charity in Barrow is hoping its work can encourage young people in the area to open up about their mental health.

Representatives from Andy's Man Club met and spoke with over 450 BAE apprentices currently working with the business.

Deborah Howard, of BAE, said: "It's amazing to see them sharing their story and encouraging others to reach out.

"I'm blown away by their absolute dedication to making life better for others."

The charity, which focuses on male suicide prevention, has peer support groups across the country and said that it was 'nice' to hear the latest feedback in how they are helping the local community.

The inaugural group in Barrow met for the first time in February this year providing men with a safe space to talk.

The purpose of their work is to 'end the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and help men through the power of conversation', with their work with BAE shining a light on how particularly important this is with the younger generation.

The charity is named after Andrew Roberts, who took his own life aged 23 in 2016.

Having originated in Halifax in West Yorkshire, the club in Barrow was the 177th iteration of these groups when it formed earlier this year.
