A MAN who has suffered from depression and anxiety is hoping to walk 100 miles for a charity that cares for mental health.

Robin Gregory is celebrating turning 50 years old by walking across Chester for Barrow's charity Mind in Furness on Saturday, April 13.

Robin, from Ulverston, said he had done a lot of preparation and is hoping to achieve his goal in 32 continuous hours.

Over the last three months, Robin has walked hundreds of miles to be in his best form for the challenge.

He said: "I know there will be testing times on the route where I will be emotional and thinking why am I doing this but I just have to keep reminding myself it is for the benefit of others and it is just head down and keep moving.

"Everybody has mental health but not everybody has mental health difficulties. I have had depression and anxiety on occasion throughout my life and I have been fortunate to have support from friends, family and GP.

"I work in the health care sector so I have supported people with mental health difficulties and Mind in Furness provides invaluable services and support to the local community and without the support of the community and people doing fundraising events these services perhaps would not be where they are today so I just want want to give something."

Robin was 'overwhelmed' to know that he has so far raised £471 of his £200 target with 26 donations.

"I appreciate that in this current climate, finances are difficult for a lot of people and for that reason, I have not asked anybody for sponsorship," he said.

Reacting to Robin's charity challenge, a spokesperson for Mind in Furness said on a social media post: "What a fantastic thing to do for us here at Mind in Furness, raising much-needed funds and raising awareness.

"Well done Robin Gregory, we're so grateful for your support. Please read Robin's fundraising note and consider encouraging him by sponsoring him a small amount."
