A MUM is set to run the London Marathon for her autistic daughter - and to raise funds for a charity close to her heart.

Kimberly James, from Ulverston, is running one of the most popular marathons in the world to raise vital funds for the National Autistic Society as her daughter Elyssia was diagnosed with the disorder at the age of seven.

She wants to run the marathon for all the families who 'love' someone with autism.

"I understand personally as a family how hard it is to get the help and support," said Kimberly.

"Two days before I do it she turns 14 so it is going to get me at the end knowing that I am doing it for her.

"I will probably cry my whole way through."

In 2022 Kimberly took part in the marathon but got injured at 16 miles. She spent two hours in the medic tent and had to walk for the rest of the course. This year she wants a better time and achieve the five-hour mark.

"I have got a lot of training in. Yesterday was my last long run which should be around 18 miles," she said.

"I think it is a bit more exciting this time. I was way more nervous last time because I did not know what to expect but the crowd on the day was amazing and even when I was struggling right at the end the crowd just got me through so I know they are going to help me through."

The mum is doing the marathon with her husband, who will be running for a different charity, on April 21.

Kimberly has so far raised £173 of the £2,200 target.
