A BARROW club for people with disabilities has set an official world record.

Boxability in Barrow now holds the world record for the most people with disabilities taking part in boxing training.

The youth service achieved the highest amount of people with disabilities punching boxing bags simultaneously for five minutes.

A total of 15 people took part in the record attempt and will be presented with certificates of their achievement later this month on April 16.

A spokesman for Record Setter.com said: “They set the record to show that people can do anything if they put their mind to it.”

Head boxing coach Jeff Moses said: "It's a massive achievement for the whole group, Boxability and the Youth Service as well as individuals. I'm proud to have been a part of it.

"It was a fantastic thing to see. They all have the basics down but showing a consistency with their punches and carrying on for the full five minutes will have been hard and testing.

"Taking part has given everyone a real boost and helped to build their confidence."

After the taste of a world title, Boxability now hopes to gain a Guinness World Record.

They are working towards the record for most people with a disability taking part in an intense workout at one time.

Alongside the carers, friends and family members of people with a disability living in Cumbria, Boxability is excited to smash the existing record.

Jeff said there was still a lot to be put together for their record attempt, including finding a venue that will be big enough to accommodate everyone.
