A LOCAL band is playing their first gig of the season to raise funds for a hand bike for a six-year-old wheelchair user.

Sugarfoot, based in the Lake District, are contributing to the fundraising in support of their friends, the Goodings family, to buy a hand bike for six-year-old Oliver.

The little boy, from Ulverston, was born with the VACTERL association - an acronym that stands for the affected parts of the body including the Vertebrae, Anus, Cardiac (Heart), Trachea, Esophagus, Renal and Limbs.

He has five of the letters of the disorder, which include conditions such as spina bifida, talipes, dislocated hips and serious renal issues - the most serious for Oliver.

Oliver is a wheelchair user and therefore the family is hoping to raise money to get him a hand bike that he can control and give him the independence to join in with his older brother and family.

"We all like to contribute to a good cause," said vocalist Sarah Capstick.

"We thought it would be nice to get involved and raise money for his bike.

"We love getting together and playing but when it is for charity it is more fulfilling."

For over 16 years Sugarfoot have been bringing a taste of Nashville to the Lake District and beyond through their rich blend of country covers and original music.

Sugarfoot are proud to be part of the country music scene and are 'excited' to be returning to The Laurel & Hardy Museum on April 12.

They perform originals as well as Dixie Chicks, Kirsty MacColl, Carrie Underwood, Amy McDonald, Steve Earle, Mumford and Sons, and Rascal Flatts.

"We'll be performing Sugarfoot originals and bringing our alternative approach to covering songs by lots of different artists," concluded Sarah.
