A woman was rushed to hospital yesterday (March 27) after suffering a 'serious medical issue' in the Lake District.

Conditions were described as 'cool and damp' when volunteers at Coniston Mountain Rescue Team (CMRT) were contacted by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) around 12.50pm about a walker at Claife Heights, Windermere.

A spokesperson for CMRT said: "We despatched two Land Rovers and were able to drive quite close to her on farm tracks.

"She was assessed before being carried on our stretcher to a waiting land ambulance on the road in Far Sawrey. She was then driven to Furness General Hospital."

The rescue took around two hours and 25 minutes and involved 12 team members.
