A TOWER clock in Windermere that had not been working for months is ticking again after a new mechanism was installed in it.
Baddeley Clock marks the division between Bowness and Windermere at the New Road, Lake Road junction. It was built as a memorial to Mountford John Byrde Baddeley the year after his death in 1906. Windermere and Bowness Town Council apologised last month for the clock not operating since it was damaged by vandals in the autumn.
Sally Parkyn, the town council clerk, said in February the original clockwork mechanism had broken and would need expensive bespoke components to fix the damage. It has been replaced with a new cheaper electric mechanism.
On Monday, March 25, Ms Parkyn revealed that the clock is operational again. She said the electric powered mechanism was 'not only considerably cheaper than repairing the clockwork but will require much less maintenance.'
Ms Parkyn also said the clock would have a 'spruce up' when the weather improves.
