A MAN was caught driving behind the wheel while nearly two times over the legal alcohol limit.
Daniel Waiting was stopped on March 7 this year while driving his Vauxhall Corsa on Devonshire Road in Barrow.
The 36-year-old, of Longreins Road in Barrow, was asked to provide a specimen of breath for analysis at the roadside, which came back positive.
Waiting was taken to the police station where he then provided another reading – the lowest of which was 77 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
The legal limit is 35 micrograms.
At South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on March 21, Waiting was disqualified from driving for 20 months.
He was offered the opportunity to attend a drink drivers' rehabilitation course, which if completed, would reduce his sentence by 20 weeks.
The defendant was also ordered to pay a £346 fine, £85 in court costs and a £138 surcharge.
