A permanent Christmas tree is in the works in Dalton to help local biodiversity levels.
The town council revealed that they were reconsidering the way they deliver Christmas trees, particularly on Greystone Lane.
They said: "Larger Christmas Trees are costly to purchase and it seems such a shame to cut down a mature tree to display and decorate for just one month of the year.
"The site is an exposed location and inevitably the tree suffers in storms, leaning or tipping completely and seems to attract criticism every year from residents.
"To help with biodiversity and climate change, the Town Council are considering planting a live tree as a permanent replacement."
The council added that they would be interested to know what local residents think of the proposal, with comments asked to be sent by email to townclerk@daltontowncouncil.gov.uk.
