The coastal defences put in place to protect Walney from erosion are said to have been 'exacerbating' the problem.

Simon Fell, the MP for Barrow and Furness, met with Councillor Giles Archibald and Westmorland and Furness officers on Friday to discuss the ongoing issue.

They discussed regional erosion, the future of West Shore Caravan Park, and how best to add improvements to the existing schemes that are currently there.

Mr Fell said: "It is very clear that the groyne is now exacerbating the damage to the path in front of the holiday park and the land beyond, and also that the rock bags were incorrectly laid and have failed to do their job.

"The Council are working on correcting this, and I’ve asked for a detailed brief on what steps we can next take to protect the site, and also on the erosion at South End too."
