A flood alert has been issued for a river and water in Cumbria.

The alert, issued by the central government's Floodline, concerns Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck, and Derwent Water.

Levels are steadily rising at the Lodore gauge due to recent rainfall.

It is expected that levels will peak at around 11am today (March 15), but will remain higher than normal over the weekend.

More light rain is forecast today, Saturday is forecast to be drier, but more rain is expected Saturday night and into Sunday.

The area most at risk is the Upper Derwent from Seathwaite to Derwent Water.

For now, people are asked to avoid low-lying footpaths and any bridges near watercourses, and not to attempt driving or walking through floodwater.
