A BARROW taxi service is celebrating after six months of getting people from A to B.

Appy Cabs was set up in August 2023 by a handful of long-term drivers with an average of 25 years in the trade.

The idea behind the platform was to set up a Uber-style service that is free for hackney drivers to work from and allows them to choose their own hours.

The app allows customers to select their location and drop-off point on a map using their current phone location.

After starting with just four drivers at the end of last summer, the platform has grown to include over 50 members, which enables the service to run both day and night.

Appy Cabs describes themselves as similar to some of the big online cab firms you will find in large cities.

The service is managed by six directors - Brian White, Simon Whiteside, Mark McClinchey, Colin White, Tia Hill and Mark Currie.

Mr McClinchey said: “We pride ourselves on reliability, punctuality and customer relations.

“Last week our average response time was 4.3 minutes, which is incredible. The more drivers we can bring to our platform, the better the service.

“We would like to thank the public for their continued support which has helped us grow and make Appy Cabs such a huge success. Here’s to a bright future.”

You can head to the app store to download the app or you can also book a taxi by telephone on 01229 808080.
