A hospice has been backed by a year of fundraising from a business based in Ulverston.

Bender UK Ltd, which focuses on electrical safety, chose St Mary's Hospice to be its key beneficiary throughout 2023.

The calendar of fundraising events resulted in a grand total of £641.80 going to the local charity.

Ruby Kelly, Marketing Executive at Bender UK, said: "We selected this charity because of the care they provide to patients and families in the local community.

"Many colleagues have experienced this first-hand or are aware of others who have benefitted from the care and services they provide."

The events and initiatives which contributed to the fundraising included a ‘guess the weight of the pumpkin’ challenge for Halloween, a Grand National sweepstake, a Christmas raffle, a bake sale, and a sports day.

"We organised various fundraising activities throughout 2023 in order to raise as much money as possible for this amazing charity," Ruby explained.

"We are proud to support St Mary’s Hospice and look forward to planning other fundraising initiatives throughout 2024.”

The hospice revealed the total on Thursday, February 29, using it as an opportunity to thank the business for their prolonged support.

Annabelle Holloway, Corporate Partnerships Manager at St Marys, said: "We were absolutely delighted to have been chosen by Bender UK as the local charity beneficiary for their fundraising throughout 2023.

"We only receive one fifth of our funding from the NHS which means that the care of eight out of ten of our patients is funded by the community and businesses such as Bender UK.

"We could like to express our biggest thanks to everyone at the company for going above and beyond for their local hospice.”

The business designs and installs critical power monitoring, control, and alarm technology to safeguard electrical safety in applications ranging from hospitals to submarines.

This time around, their efforts have been around safeguarding the future of a key charity in the community.
