READERS have reacted and shared their memories of the TV icon Dave Myers following the announcement of his death at the age of 66.

Barrow-born Mr Myes died on Thursday, February 29, after battling cancer for a few years. His co-star and best friend Si King announced the news on his X page. 

This publication's readers have said his death has a 'huge loss' and have called the TV star a 'local treasure.'

Many readers and fans have recalled the times the Hairy Biker was seen in town and have shared their memories of him.

One of the readers, Caroline Duckworth, said: "Always had time for people. I met him on my birthday. He was more than happy to have a photo."

Another reader, Janet Huitson, said: "He was proud to be a Barrow lad. Remember he and Si popping into the Steelworks pub and having a banter and asking if there were any Green's pies."

Brenda Pratt, a Mail reader, said: "Very sad news was a lovely man always proud of the town he came from my dad worked with his dad down the paper mills always spoke well of him RIP."

Another reader, Zirvana Smith, said: "R.I.P Dave my deepest condolences to your wife Liliana Myers and Si king. Dave was a beautiful gentleman inside and out. He always had time for a chat with me when he was back home in Barrow. A true Barrow Lad and a fighter to the end."

Joan Birkett, a Mail reader, said: "Such sad news RIP Dave it was such a special evening when we got the chance to see them both on stage in Barrow at the Forum."

Another reader, Lisa Marie Connor, said: "We saw him once in Debenhams. We walked past and I felt a little starstruck. Sad news."
