A lone female walker was taken aback when she encountered a naked hiker from the waist down on her way down Latrigg, near Keswick.

Anna Nolan, a 71-year-old who leads the walking group Skiddaw u3a, was descending the Lake District fell towards Brundholme Road on the afternoon of February 10 when she came across the startling sight.

"I usually lead a walking group but on that day, I was by myself up Latrigg and coming down its eastern shoulder," Anna, who is about to complete all 214 Wainwrights, said.

"As I descended, I was on the main path, and on the right was a steeper path where a man was going up.

"I look sideways, we're more or less at the same height, he's wearing a short walking jacket and was wearing no trousers and no pants, I had to double-take.

"He was carrying something in his hand, it must have been his trousers and pants," she said.

The situation drew the attention of another couple on the trail, who, like Anna, were taken aback by the sight.

"A couple was looking at me in amazement and then we both looked up, all we could see was his naked buttocks.

"I looked at the couple and they looked at me, and the woman said, 'Just when you think you've seen everything'."

Despite the shock of the encounter, Anna promptly reported the incident to Cumbria Police.

"I was shocked naturally, but to be honest, I wasn't traumatised, he didn't do anything or say anything to me.

"I'm 71, I've walked all my life in Poland and here in the UK and a lot by myself, I can say I've never seen anything like that.

"He wasn't very far from the main path, what was he thinking when he was going to join it?"
