An investment group that is busy restoring a Grade II-listed building in Ulverston has revealed the amazing features being brought 'back to life' one by one.

Developers are currently working hard at Lonsdale House at Daltongate after it was bought by the Cameron Investment Group in 2020.

The 19-bedroom Georgian townhouse is being turned into 13 apartments which will be available for short-term rental.

The townhouse has seen many weddings over the decades and work is now progressing well to restore Lonsdale House so it can be a destination for special occasions once again.

The Mail: Sash windows adorned with swags and tails curtainsFounder of Cameron Investment Group, Neil Cameron, who is originally from South Lakes, has previously said that the project's modernisation work has been important, but so is the work of restoring some its stunning original fixtures.

Photographs now reveal the building's features that are coming 'back to life' which includes its sash windows, a grand staircase and cornices and ceiling details that were previously barricaded up.

Neil Cameron said: "Last week we met with the construction team to review progress at Lonsdale House, and we are delighted to say the property is really taking shape and we are on track for launch this summer.

"The joinery team have been busy over recent weeks creating the structure for each apartment and fitting the custom-made windows - which look fantastic.

"We are also delighted that our Site Supervisor Steve has been refurbishing the beautiful, historical staircase and handrails, which we think look amazing.

"We're hoping that the photos are of the work so far are of interest to people."

The Mail: Lonsdale House's grand staircaseAn initial historical survey that was undertaken before work began identified various parts of the building date that from the 1600s - 200 years older than originally thought.

A heritage assessment done by Greenlane Archeology staircases revealed that the main original features left after modernisation were its decorative plasterwork, door surrounds, roof trusses and sash windows.

The investment group has said that bookings for the luxury apartments have already started to 'fly in' ahead of the proposed summer launch with inquiries made from couples wanting their 'special day' there.

This is already a Lonsdale House website for anyone wanting to inquire.
