A new 'pocket park' has been introduced in Dalton.
The installation has been made at Rusland Drive where the land was previously used as a play area for young children.
The ageing equipment was said to represent an issue and has been replaced with the new planters after residents were consulted on what should be built.
Dalton with Newton Town Council explained: "We had the area resurfaced and installed two picnic benches, one with wheelchair access, and nine planters all made from 100% recycled plastic.
"We hope that this will be a well-used area which can be used for picnics and is safe for children as the area is fenced."
On Tuesday seasonal plants were put in by councillors Ann Thurlow, David Pearson and Neil McDougall but more permanent planting will take place later in the Spring.
