Walking can be a great activity if you like to get outside or if you’re needing to escape reality for a little bit.

The Lake District is known for its plentiful offering of walks and trails that have proved popular with many including TV presenter Helen Skelton.

Go Outdoors pulled together a list of its eight favourite walks at some of the UK’s National Parks and their ambassador for North Ridge, Helen Skelton, shared what her favourite Lake District walk is.

What is Helen Skelton’s favourite Lake District walk?

Helen Skelton said Helvellyn Gill Path is her favourite walk in the Lake District.

Skelton said: “I just love this walk. Many memories, many early mornings and many milestones have been marked here for me!

“Walking around here brings such a wholesome feeling to me and I am so grateful to have this, and many other locations in the Lake District, on my doorstep!”

Go Outdoors explains on its website that the walk is graded ‘difficult’ with mountain and open terrain.

It’s a 7.15km route and takes approximately three hours to complete.

Walkers can expect to see some “breathtaking views of the Lake District” on this walk as they follow the route to the top of the mountain.

Go Outdoors added that the route is a popular one with dog owners but as it’s a “moderately difficult” one and takes three hours to complete, you’ll need to make sure your dog is “in peak fitness”.

You can download the walking route via the Go Outdoors website and find out which maps will help you with the route.
