A pair of Australian tourists have thanked a Keswick local for escorting them back to town after becoming 'stranded' near Derwentwater.

Despite enjoying a nice day out at the picturesque lake, the couple claimed they were left behind whilst the rest of their group were taken back.

Derwentwater is immediately south of Keswick and - depending where on the lake you are - typically a short walk back from town.

The disgruntled Australian pair took to Tripadvisor to complain about their treatment but also reserved praise for a Cumbrian local.

They posted: "We took this launch today and enjoyed what we could see despite the weather (no one's fault of course) We got off at The Lingholm estate which was very nice and were told to walk to Nicol End and be there by the quarter to the hour.

"We were there a couple of minutes before and although we waved as we'd been told to, the launch was early and had already turned and did not come and pick us up.

"Not our fault the launch was early! We were left stranded in the rain and certainly did not want to wait another hour for the next launch. Not a good way to treat two travelling Aussies.

"Fortunately, a kind man gave us a lift back into Keswick. Timetables should be honoured."
