PLANS have been lodged to knock down a bungalow near Grange and build a replacement ‘eco-home’.

Ian Farrington has submitted plans to Westmorland and Furness Council to knock down a two-bedroom bungalow on Headless Cross Road in Cartmel and construct a four-bedroom property.

The planning statement says: “It is proposed to remove the existing dwelling due to its poor condition and below standard accommodation. A high quality, family sized Eco-home is proposed to take its place.

“The building is in poor repair and has been empty for some time. It lacks the size and layout for modern living accommodation. The thermal envelope is poor with little or no insulation. This together with an outdated gas heating system mean that the property performs poorly”, the statement adds.

The proposed new home will consist of four bedrooms and also contains a plant room for renewable energy equipment.

The planning statement adds: “The proposed dwelling is modest in terms of the size of the plot, and has two styles, a more traditional stone clad ‘barn’ section to road side, and a more contemporary wing to the rear. These are combined to provide a high quality design which sits well within its surroundings and the character of the area.”
