THE team of a hair salon in south Cumbria is celebrating after being finalists at the England Business Awards.

Scissor Sisters attended the annual national Grand Final of England's Business Awards at the Eastside Rooms in Birmingham.

The regional winners competed for the national awards on November 19.

The hair salon, based at 1 Lowther Gardens in Grange, was awarded the Best Hair Stylists in Cumbria last month.

Although they did not win the title of Best Hair Stylists in England, the team said they are 'proud' to have been nominated.

Joanne Marwood, owner of Scissor Sisters, said: "There were four of us in the same category, but unfortunately, we didn't win.

"However, we are grateful to be among the four for the whole of England, so that will do for me."

The 'electrifying' ceremony saw hundreds of English businesses competing for different categories including Best Barbers, Best Tanning Salon and even Best Fish and Chip Shop.

"We had a three-course meal in a black-tie dinner with all different businesses from all of England," said Ms Marwood.

"We met some really nice people there -  it was very glamorous."

Ms Marwood also thanked her clients and the team for all the support over the years.

She said: "We have such loyal clientele, and they are all so supportive - we are very grateful.

"I have sacrificed my whole life to it with the support of my mum. Hard work does pay off.

"Myself, Alison Langhorn and Ellery Acraman all go the extra mile here. You never stop learning, and you never stop improving."

This is the business's first award after being established for almost eight years.

Ms Marwood started pursuing the trade at just 16 years old and attended Kendal College before getting some work experience at a local salon, where she grew as a hairdresser.

The owner said she has 'amazing' clients, many of whom have stayed with her and followed her since she started cutting hair over 30 years ago.
