A new comedy festival is coming to Ulverston next month which will feature a host of BBC and Channel 4 stars as well as upcoming stand-ups.

The Comedy Festival, in collaboration with Manford's Comedy Club, is coming to Ford Park on September 2.

Manchester-based Manford’s Comedy Club has employed hundreds of comedians to entertain over 80,000 people in over 70 different locations in the UK. Along with Barrow-based Pitch Up events, the pair have now organised a line-up of big names to come to Ulverston's Ford Park.

This includes BBC's Shooting Stars star Angelos Epithemiou, Clinton Baptiste - the psychic from Phoenix Nights, Channel 4's Smack the Pony's Fiona Allen and 1970's Irish comedian Jimmy Cricket from And There's More. There will also be a host of MCs which will also be providing entertainment.

James Bonner, of Pitch Up Events, said: "We’re really excited to bring Pitch Up Comedy Festival to Ford Park, Ulverston. We’ve partnered with Manford’s Comedy Club to create something new in the area. The comedy club have pulled together a stacked line up of TV comedy stars and some of the brightest up and coming names on the comedy circuit.

"So whether you like your golden oldies like the nostalgic Jimmy cricket or like us your huge fans of Phoenix night’s, Clinton Baptiste. There truly is something for everyone. The comedy will be supported by great local musicians, some of the best local food vendors and cosy bar area to enjoy the September summer day."

The event is also in association with Ford Park Community Group which manages the grounds as a public park for the enjoyment of the whole community. 50% of fees will be going to Ford Park Community.

James added: "We’ve had a fantastic response so far from the local people and businesses. Which is no surprise as Ulverston always has a real buzz whenever an event of this nature is put on. Our doors will open at 12 and we will be wrapped up by 9pm which means people can go on to enjoy the night in the many fantastic bars Ulverston has to offer.

"We’re also offering a host of sponsorship opportunities for local businesses to be part of the event. The Ulverston community is fantastic at getting behind the town’s events and we want to continue that with a date on the calendar for our comedy festival every year.

"So whether your a business looking to get involved or you're a member of the public looking to enjoy the comedy, we can’t wait to host what promises to be one of our best events to date."
