A FAMILY-run hotel that has undergone a major refurbishment has reopened its doors – and revealed its transformed new look.

Chequers Lodge in Dalton has reopened to guests following a sudden closure in 2019.

More than 50 functions due to be held at Chequers were cancelled after the company behind the venue fell into financial difficulties.

However, the hotel has since been brought back to life thanks to the efforts of Robert and Elizabeth Beck who bought the property in 2020 for £500,000.

The couple’s daughter Laura is currently living onsite and working as the hotel’s manager.

In January 2021 proposals were put forward to the council to demolish the hotel's Castle Suite, a function room, bar and kitchen to make way for manager's accommodation with the other building on the site being turned into rooms to let.

The Castle Suite has since been demolished and the manager’s accommodation is nearing completion, said hotel manager Laura.

The Annexe building has also undergone a full renovation, with plans to begin the next phase of renovation soon.

The other rooms in the main building are under refurbishment which should be completed in 2024. This will include serviced accommodation, family rooms, accessible room and a lounge area.

All the rooms have been newly-decorated and finished to a high standard.

The hotel – which opened on July 7 – is comprised of 15 rooms with four room types available, including: a king room, king kitchenette, double kitchenette and single room.

Currently there is no restaurant, function room or bar but the hotel is promoting local eateries and pubs in Dalton.

Charnleys Home and Garden Centre are providing guests with a discount voucher to use during their stay.

Since reopening the hotel has received an influx of bookings with rave reviews flooding in about the lodge.

One review reads: “Stayed at Chequers for a week in July for work. From initial contact the communication was flawless. I was taken aback as to how well presented the building was and how clean and well maintained.”

The hotel is currently available on Airbnb and Expedia or by contacting the facility direct.
