A SIGNALLING fault is causing delays to rail services this morning.
Train operator Northern said trains will run at a reduced speed on the Tyne Valley line between Cumbria and Northumberland for several hours as a result of the issue.
A spokesman from Northern said: "A signalling fault between Carlisle and Haltwhistle is delaying services from Carlisle towards Hexham/Newcastle.
"Network Rail are expected to arrive on site at about 8.15am to rectify the issue.
"The 5.44am Carlisle to Nunthorpe service was first affected and was delayed by 28 minutes.
"For passengers on station platforms, please listen for announcements or consult customer information screens for up to date train running information."
Compensation can be claimed by passengers if services are delayed by 15 minutes or more.
