FIRE crews from Barrow and Ulverston have confirmed they helped to rescue a man trapped in his car after a crash. 

Police were called to Yarlside Road in Barrow at 7pm last night after a one-vehicle collision.

Firefighters confirmed they were called to the scen at 7.10pm. 

Crews from Barrow and Ulverston rescued the man from the vehicle and made the scene safe. They were in attendance for 50 minutes. 

Yarlside Road remained closed for a number of hours while collision investigation work was carried out. 

It is believed the driver has suffered a medical episode and his condition last night was described as critical.
