THE Armistice was marked in Millom in sombre fashion with a parade from the Pensioners’ Hall to St George’s Church for a special service ahead of the wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph.
The parade also featured Cumbrian Heavy Horses as they paid tribute to the animals killed during service.
It was followed by lunch and the singing of wartime songs at Millom Palladium.
In the afternoon, marchers assembled at Haverigg harbour before a parade to St Luke’s Church for a service followed by a wreath-laying ceremony.
The day had started with a lone piper playing in Millom and the chairman of the town’s Royal British Legion Rob Watson laid a wreath on the grave of Private TH Tyson, who died on November 11, 1918, the day of the Armistice.
