A COUNCILLOR is joining a delegation of representatives from around England heading to Westminster to demand extra funding for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in our schools.

Cumbria County Council’s cabinet member for schools, Sue Sanderson, will join will present a petition with over 32,000 signatures to Damian Hinds, Secretary of State for Education as part of the National Education Union’s (NEU) ‘Stop School Cuts’ campaign on Tuesday.

The petition calls on the Secretary of State to properly fund SEND in all schools/colleges, ensuring no child has to wait for a place in school and give power and funding back to local authorities.

Cllr Sanderson, who represents Cartmel, said: "It is absolutely vital that government takes this funding crisis seriously.Thousands of schools are walking a budget tightrope and children’s educations’ are suffering."
