1 SINGER songwriter Chris Bannister returns to The Beggar's Theatre at Millom tomorrow (Saturday) with his solo show The Music of John Denver, which celebrates the life and work of the legendary singer and songwriter. 2 THE Jaywalkers play a fresh and exciting fusion of influences from folk, bluegrass and country to western swing music and Levens Arts and Film Society is bringing them to the Levens Institute on Sunday, November 4 (8pm) for a joyous evening of instrumentals, three-part harmony, impressive slap bass and good humoured banter. 3 WATER Yeat Village Hall hosts a concert by the Mochara duo of Maurice Dickson and Catherine Ashcroft on Sunday (October 21, 8pm). Maurice has been writing and performing his songs for almost 30 years and a master of his craft. Catherine Ashcroft plays the Uilleann pipes and whistles with breathtaking speed and virtuosity and in 2007 won All Britain titles on both whistle and pipes. Maurice and Catherine met in 2008 which led to them forming Mochara, taking the name from the Irish meaning of 'my friend.' The pair have performed at various festivals, folk clubs, theatres and music venues throughout the UK, and Europe.

4 ANDY POWELL and Wishbone Ash are touring and bringing their distinctive mix of powerful yet melodic rock to Bootleggers Bar at Kendal next Tuesday, October 23. Wishbone Ash, with Andy and Ted Turner, pioneered twin lead guitars in the early 1970s and original member Andy has more or less toured with various incarnations of Wishbone ever since. 5 THE highly regarded Julian Costello Quartet heads to Ambleside's Zeffirellis for a gig tomorrow (Saturday, 8.30pm). Saxophonist Julian makes his first visit to the venue with a superb band, featuring Polish guitarist Maciek Pysz. The tenor and soprano sax player is also a sought after teacher; he teaches saxophone from beginners to advanced and also drums and piano for beginners in his purpose built studio.
