THE Queen's representative for Cumbria has sent her personal congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after hey announced they were expecting the patter of tiny feet.

HM Lord Lieutenant, Mrs Claire Hensman, sent her congratulations to the Prince Harry and his wife Meghan after they announced they are expecting their first child.

Speaking to The Mail, she described the pregnancy as “very good news”.

Mrs Hensman said: "This is fantastic news. I wish them both good luck."

Harry and Meghan told the world the newest member of the Royal Family was due in Spring 2019.

Mrs Hensmans kind words echoed the joyous reactions of many celebrities, politicians and public figures, who wished the happy couple all the best with their exciting news.

Prime Minister Theresa May said on Twitter: “My warmest congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the happy news they are expecting a baby in the Spring. Wishing them all the best.”

Members of Parliament from across the country sent their congratulations to the Royal couple, as did individuals like the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, business woman Lady Karren Brady and British boxing great Frank Bruno

Both Harry and Meghan have talked about their desire to be parents and start a family together.

In 2016 the Duchess of Sussex described motherhood as being on her “bucket list” and on a trip to Belfast in the months leading up to their wedding. The bride-to-be was shown an innovative range for newborns. She reacted jokingly, saying “I’m sure at some point we’ll need the whole (lot).”

The Duke of Sussex also discussed the couples plans for parenthood in the run-up to their widely anticipated wedding day.

During the engagement interview, he said “hopefully we’ll start a family in the near future.”

Kensington Palace thanked the public for “all of the support”and said that they were “delighted to be able to share this happy news”.Both the Duke and Duchess are on a 16 day tour of Australia and New Zealand.
