IN Barrow options remain for parent’s who have experienced the loss of a child despite shortage.

Organisations such as The Bluebell Foundation and the Tigerlily Trust offer key support for people who’ve lost their baby, offering an alternative care to that provided through Furness General.

Joy Porter, Senior Practitioner at The Bluebell Foundation said: “There is little support currently on offer within the region - only two bereavement midwives work across the Morecambe Bay NHS trust.

“We provide one-to-one counselling support and in the last year we supported 518 people, 40% were related to the loss of a child.”

Another alternative is the Tigerlily Trust that is run by Valery Isherwood.

She said: “We offer face-to-face sessions and our facebook group is really good for immediate support.

“Even if it is in the middle of the night, someone is usually there to help talk things through.”

The Hoad was also turned purple last night in support of National Baby loss Awareness week.
