2. KATHY Lette’s Girls’ Night Out show takes to Kendal’s Brewery Arts Centre’s stage on Wednesday, October 17 (8pm). “Women are each other’s human wonder bras - uplifting, supportive and making each other look bigger and better,” points out funny, feminist author, Kathy Lette. Kathy describes the show as a psychological striptease with tales of love, lust, men, marriage, pregnancy, childbirth, mastitis, sexist bosses, teenage-daughter-wrangling, ageing, and toy boys. She also talks poignantly about the trials, tribulations and hilarity of raising a child on the autistic spectrum.

3. JAY Foreman’s Disgusting Songs for Revolting Children is in the spotlight at Ulverston’s Coronation Hall next Wednesday, October 24 (2pm). Jay Foreman is an award winning musical comedian whose songs have been heard on BBC Radio 4, Radio 4 Extra, The One Show, London Live TV and Dave Gorman’s UK and Ireland tour. Jay’s Disgusting Songs for Revolting Children provides a devilishly cheeky hour of songs, poems and comedy for children of all ages in a family friendly show. which regularly sells out its entire runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. 4. ESK Valley Theatre Company performs Bill Manhoff’s classic American comedy The Owl and The Pussycat on Friday and Saturday, October 26/27 at the Old Laundry at Bowness.

Directed by Mark Stratton, the play puts two unlikely neighbours centre stage: Doris, a prostitute who aspires to be an actress and Felix who works in a bookshop but aspires to be a novelist. 5. DEFINITELY one for the diary is Ulverston Outsiders The 39 Steps, coming up for a four-night, fast-paced run of thrilling comedy action from November 20-23 (7.30pm) at the Coronation Hall. Hitchcock’s classic spy thriller, The 39 Steps, is brilliantly and hilariously recreated for the stage by Ulverston Outsiders, who follow the incredible adventures of handsome hero Richard Hannay. complete with stiff-upper-lip, British gung-ho and pencil moustache as he encounters dastardly murders, double-crossing secret agents, and, of course, devastatingly beautiful women.
