WORK has started to convert an empty property into a new Domino's outlet in Barrow.

The plans were first revealed in January 2017 after an application was submitted to Barrow Borough Council's planning department by architects looking to transform the former offices in A B Mitchell Developments base in Roose Road.

A design and access statement for the property stated the application was for a "national pizza chain which has another premises in Walney Road," confirming Domino's was behind the plans.

Permission was granted in November 2017 and in the last two weeks workers from a shop-fitting company have begun work on the conversion.

Domino's has one existing outlet in Barrow at the Cocken Valley leisure park in Walney Road. The new store in Roose Road is understood to only be a delivery base and customers will not be able to collect food from the outlet.
