RETAIL giant Primark has responded to calls to open a store in Barrow.
A woman highlighted the possiblity of the retailer taking over part of Furness House above the market which formerly housed the tax office and has remained empty for a number of years.
The property is adjacant to a large car park and is at the heart of the town centre, something which Primark insists on for new store openings.
Joannie Taylor, from Barrow, pointed out the option to Primark on Twitter.
She described Furness House as an "ideal location", adding: "Allows for Furness House and the Mall to be removed. Existing steel structure accommodating two floors and a lift to the car park."
The popular clothes retailer has since responded and vowed to pass on the suggestion to the department which deals with store openings.
Primark replied: "Hi, thanks for your suggestion, we have passed your comments on to the relevant department!"
The Mail has previously reported that a land agent working on behalf of Primark has confirmed the retailer has previously looked at opening a store in Barrow.
However, this was ruled out with no suitable empty properties matching Primark's requirements. Primark prefers to have a presence right in the town centre and would need a sizeable property.
Do you think Primark will ever open a store in Barrow?
