Two union representatives have been collecting bras in aid to help business, reduce landfill and raise money for charity.

Sharon Webster and Deborah Henry have been collecting bras for over two weeks.

The bra bank collection, which is in Ulverston Library, aims to raise money for cancer research, stop bra's from going into landfill sites and help businesses in Africa.

Mrs Webster, also a councillor for Ulverston, said it's a brilliant scheme.

She said: "Its amazing - the idea is fantastic.

"Not only are we raising money for cancer, we are allowing women to develop their trade in Africa and we are helping the environment."

Recycling officers collect bra's from the library when a specific weight is reached.

They then donate a certain amount of money for the weight that is produced.

The money is then given to Cancer Research UK.

Alternatively, the scheme also focuses on helping the environment and places in Africa.

Bra's remain too expensive to produce locally in countries like Togo, Ghana and Kenya.

This scheme allows people to develop their business to produce an income.

Tons of bra's are sent to landfill sites all over the world.

With this scheme, bra's are kept out of landfill sites and used to change peoples lives.

Mrs Webster has collected around 300 bra's since she started.

She said she hopes the money can go towards finding a cure for the disease.

She said: "I have four bin bags at home full of them.

"I am waiting on the recycling officer to come to Ulverston Library to collect them all."

She added: "The more money we make, the more we can donate and the quick it will be to find a vaccine.

"We want both men and women to live cancer free lives.

"As well as this, we donate to Africa because we want women to have more dignity and have a strong bus
