RAINBOW running was the order of the day when hundreds of people got involved in a charity colour run.

Families and friends turned out in force to Barrow Park to take part in a colour run on Sunday organised by HuddleHub and Tesco Extra.

The sun was shining on the runners and walkers as they got showered in powder paints in the name of charity around the 5k route.

The Barrow Fun Weekend and Colour Run event had Taylor's Funfair rides and other attractions in the park over the whole weekend.

Children enjoyed the fair rides, bouncy castles, donkey rides and face painting.

There were also stalls to look around and refreshments.

The weekend of events was raising money for the Salvation Army, North West Blood Bikes Lancashire and Lakes and Animal Welfare Furness.

Klair Flint, of Barrow, has just raised £800 for North West Blood Bikes by running the Great North Run for the charity.

This weekend she and friend Yvonne Holt donned their colourful tutus and did the Barrow colour run to support the charity again.

The motorcyclist, said: "North West Blood Bikes is a charity close to our hearts. I'm a biker and I have friends involved with the charity.

"The colour run is brilliant."

Mrs Holt, of Barrow, said: "The colour run is fab and fun."

Barrow sisters Leticia and Tianna Thompson, age 11 and six, were ready to be covered in coloured powder paint while running around the park in the September sunshine. The girls were taking part with their auntie Karen Donnelly and they all sported pink visor hats for the colourful occasion.

Tianna, who also put on her yellow shades, said: "We want to get the

colours on us."

Leticia said: "It's going to be a lot of fun."

Deborah Reid, of Barrow, was running with her granddaughter, Evie Mae Reid, eight, stepson Eric Nelson, 13, and her friend Sandra Wright.

Mrs Reid, said: "It's a great event to help out local charities.

"I've done the colour run before and there is a brilliant atmosphere with all the people here enjoying it."

Evie said: "I'm looking forward to getting covered in all the colours."
