THE Lakes Herdy Trails fundraising scheme is continuing into the start of next month.

The Windermere and Bowness Herdy Trails were set up by Windermere Brownies to raise funds for the unit and also to provide families with a fun activity.

Locals and visitors have been tasked with finding as many Herdwick sheep toy characters in around the local shops and businesses as they can.

Trail sheets are available for £1 each from local retailers, including the Tourist Information Centres. The scheme runs until October 5.

Thanks to the generous support provided by Herdy UK and local businesses, people have been able to get involved in the adventure and enter into a prize draw by returning their completed trail sheets.

Herdwick are the native Lake District sheep. Favourite children’s author, Beatrix Potter, bred Herwick on her Lake District farms. She won a number of prizes for her sheep at local shows, and became the first elected female President of the Herdwick Sheep Breeders’ Association in 1943.

When she died, she left 15 farms, covering more than 4,000 acres, to the National Trust, and according to her wishes all continue to graze Herdwick flocks.
