A ROMANTIC couple enjoyed all the sights of Las Vegas in a wedding - three decades after they first met.

Ruth Davies (nee Baddeley), a commercial manager at The Mail, wed 49-year-old physiotherapist Simon Davies in Sin City.

The couple live in Whassett, near Milnthorpe.

The duo travelled alone to the USA following the sudden death of Ruth's father.

"My dad passed away suddenly hence why we went away to get married as I didn’t want anyone else to walk me down the aisle.

"It was the same with a wedding reception. It would upset me too much to hear speeches off everyone and my dad not be part of it."

Ruth, aged 48, said the pair first met when they were 18.

"We drifted apart at 21 but met again at 30 years old," she said.

"Our feelings were still as strong as when we were young, just older and wiser and appreciated each other more than when we were teenagers."

Simon proposed on his 40th birthday.

"I had taken him for a surprise holiday to the Bahamas but he had an even bigger surprise for me," explained Ruth.

"I thought we were going down to the beach to open Simon's cards and presents but he had secretly packed the ring and had it all planned out to propose on his birthday.

"He had rung my dad before we went away to ask his permission and that meant the world to me."

Ruth enjoyed a girls weekend in Ibiza as her hen do while Simon’s stag go was up a mountain with his best friend.

The theme of the wedding was a sunset and included a black limousine trip out to the stunning Red Rock Canyon, which lies in Nevada’s Mojave Desert.

A photoshoot down the strip followed.

Ruth's dress was from Brides of Chester.

"I loved it the minute I put the dress on," said Ruth.

Simon sported a linen suit to help deal with the searing heat in the desert.

A Las Vegas stylist visited the hotel to do Ruth's hair and makeup.

Ruth's ring was a diamond band wedding ring.

"I had a choice of an expensive wedding and party or spend it all on the ring – the ring won," said Ruth.
