SUMMER may seem to be over for the year, but having a garden to get out and about in, no matter what the weather, can still be important for both people and pets.

And this week The Mail features a duo in the care of the charity Animal Welfare who definitely fit into this category.

Poppy and Bear are 14-month-old Chihauhau cross Yorkshire Terrier sisters who are looking for a five-star home together because their owners have ongoing health problems.

They are both lovely friendly girls who were bred by their current owners and live with other dogs and cats.

They have also been brought up around children of all ages.

Poppy is very chilled and laid back. She is quite happy to be a cuddly lap dog and content with having a play in the garden whereas Bear is more outgoing, playful and always up for a walk. (Bear is on the right of the picture and Poppy is on the left).

Because they have been used to a large garden, it would really help them to settle into their new home if it came with outdoor space also.

Poppy and Bear are still with their owners and will stay there until the right home comes along.

Anyone wanting to visit Poppy and Bear or find out more details about them can contact either Joanne on 07928695814 or Becca on 07842579651.

Lovely Drake, the-six year-old castrated Staffordshire Bull Terrier, also in the hands of Animal Welfare, is still looking for his forever home.

WHile under the charity’s care Drake is being looked after in Barrow Borough Council kennels on Walney.

He is a lovely friendly boy who has a good nature and loves company. He is good with other dogs but has never been in the company of cats.

Drake is very energetic, very excitable and tends to jump up on people so for this reason the charity wants him to go to a home where there are no small children. even though staff feel his behaviour will improve with lots of regular exercise.

A garden would also be a huge benefit to Drake as well as a home where there is someone who is able to take him for long regular walks and be able to give him some basic training. and love.

Drake has lived with a one year old child, but due to his boisterous nature Animal Welfare recommends a home with children over the age of 15 years.

Again, anyone who would like to meet Drake can contact either Joanne on 07928695814 Becca on 07842579651 or the cattery on 01229 826955 or 01229 836955.
