YOU can see Haverigg across the Duddon Estuary from Foxfield but rather than sail a couple of miles a group of hardy young farmers decided they would rather haul their Love Boat around the road.

It was all for charity and members of the Broughton Young Farmers Club hoped the arduous boat trip on dry land would raise £200.

The Mail. on September 2, in 1986, noted: "Members of the 20-strong group had decided to push a wooden boat and trailer about nine miles.

"They set off from the Prince of Wales, Foxfield, at noon and reached Haverigg beach in the afternoon.

"And the trip, made by the specially painted Love Boat, included an ascent of the steep Buckman Brow hill.

"The youngsters were dressed as sailors and pirates to raise cash for Haverigg Inshore Rescue."

In 1985, the group pushed a bed for 15 miles.
