SATURDAY industrial action is set to turn a normal 60-minute train journey into an almost three-hour replacement bus ride from Barrow to Lancaster.

The ongoing Saturday strikes throughout September - over the future of guards on trains - will see Northern offer no train services between Barrow and Lancaster.

There are four bus replacement services scheduled, with the internet journey planner published by National Railway Enquiries warning that the one-way trip is expected to take two hours and 55 minutes.

The normal rail journey takes between 56 and 64 minutes.

Saturday bus services from Barrow railway station to Lancaster - calling at intermediate stations - are at 9am, 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm.

Services run from Lancaster to Barrow at the same times.

There are just two Saturday train services expected to run in each direction on the Barrow to Millom route.

You can get a train from Barrow to Millom at 10.22am and 5.17pm - an almost seven-hour gap between services.

From Millom to Barrow there are expected to be trains at 9.11am and 3.07pm.
