SNOW White and Mickey Mouse were among the costumed characters helping to make a huge success of a summer fete held at George Hastwell School, Walney, 21 years ago to raise money for a new minibus.
The Mail on Tuesday, July 8, in 1997, noted: "The theme of the day was Disney and the host of fairground-type stalls and games meant everyone had a great time.
"One of the assistants, Dee Stanton, volunteered to be put in the stocks and have wet sponges thrown at her.
"A new, specially-adapted minibus is needed so children in wheelchairs can enjoy trips provided by the school."
Headteacher Bernard Gummett: "We need a new minibus because one of the two minibuses we have is very old.
"The new minibus must be specially adapted so we can take out seats for wheelchairs."
Chairman of the governors Linda Kitchin said: "The minibuses are important for many trips — the hydrotherapy centre, the animal park and trips to learn how to shop."
