THE final preparations are being made for this year's Cumbria Pride.

It takes place in Carlisle on Saturday, September 29 and will start with a parade from the Civic Centre at 11am.

The rainbow parade will make its way up Scotch Street and across the city and then down Castle Street and back past the Civic Centre.

It will then head under the underpass and up Stanwix Bank to the University of Cumbria's Brampton Road campus where there will be stalls and entertainment from 12.30pm.

The event will see performances from Dr & The Medics, Allan Jay, Lisa Hart, Stevie D, Liam Moorhouse and DJ Mark Allen. Hosting and performing will be Stella the Fella.

Dr & The Medics will be performing at The Brickyard from 8pm.

The band, best known for their cover of Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky", are among the acts lined up for the county's celebration of diversity.

The glam rock act reached No. 1 in the UK singles chart in 1986.

Tickets are £7 in advance from The Vinyl Cafe or The Kings Head or £9 on the door.

This year the organisation is helping celebrate 40 years of the Pride flag.

It will see 40 towns, villages, businesses and organisations in Cumbria raising the Pride flag for seven days.

This is to show support for Cumbria’s diverse community and help promote unity and acceptance.
