OFFICERS are investigating an attempted burglary in a Furness town.
Police said a man attempted to distract an 81-year-old woman by saying there was a fire at the back of her street.
She returned to her house to confront the person, who was upstairs.
It happened at 3pm on September 10 on Burlington Street.
The victim was unharmed and nothing was taken from the property.
The man is described as white and aged between 50 and 60, 5ft 10 ins tall and of medium build with muscular arms.
He was wearing a white t-shirt, red and white shorts and spoke with a local accent.
Residents and family members have been advised to be diligent around cold calling or uninvited visitors. Anyone with relevant information regarding this incident is asked to contact Cumbria Police on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 080055111.
