A LOCAL MP joined members of the community to celebrate a decade since a vital shop opened.
Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron headed to Witherslack Community Shop to mark its tenth anniversary.
The shop was opened by members of the community 10 years ago following the closure of the village's post office.
The store provides a vital focal point for villagers.
To mark the milestone the village held a cream tea event at the shop which raised £500 for Macmillan nurses.
Mr Farron said: “It was great to be able to join the local community in Witherslack to celebrate 10 years since they opened the shop.
“The post office was such a key part of the village and so the community’s response in setting up their own successful shop speaks volumes about the kind of people they are.
“Here’s to the next 10 years!”
